Participation of Mozambican Students at the Cyber Security Challenge 2019

 

The “TheGeeks” team consisting of three (3) students from Eduardo Mondlane University were qualified for the 2nd phase of the competition after winning 10th place overall in the 1st phase of the International Cyber Security Challenge 2019 “Cyber Security Challenge 2019” .

 The Ministry of Science and Technology, Higher and Vocational Education (MCTESTP), through the Mozambique Research and Education Network (MoRENet), received an invitation to participate in a competition at the beginning of July this year. Cyber Security Challenge called the Cyber Security Challenge 2019.

The invitation was formulated by the South African National Research Network (SANReN) - the MoRENet counterpart institution in South Africa, in an initiative implemented jointly with the Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC) - MoRENet's partner institution in the implementation of infrastructure and services. The Cyber Security Challenge 2019 competition on Cyber Security was aimed at undergraduate and master university students who take computer courses with an interest in the area of Information Security.

For its part, MoRENet addressed the invitation to the national universities benefiting from MoRENet services that brought their students.

Of the Mozambican students participating in the contest, special mention goes to the “TheGeeks” team who had a positive result in the first phase of the contest which earned them a seat to the next phase of the competition.

With a total of 160 points, TheGeeks took 10th place in the overall ranking of the competition. With this result this team was qualified for the next phase of the competition in a challenge in which they will defend the colors of the beloved homeland, Mozambique, in this international competition.
